MOD Kitchen Rewire in Sidmouth

A recent kitchen rewire project for a client in Sidmouth involved upgrading the electrical installation to meet current safety standards and support a full kitchen renovation.

The existing consumer unit lacked Type A RCD protection and did not have sufficient capacity for the additional circuits required. To resolve this, a new Wylex Consumer Unit was installed, providing modern protection and room for expansion in line with current regulations.

The kitchen was fully rewired, with all new circuits installed to comply with the latest standards. This included a ring main with grid switch controls for appliances, dedicated circuits for the hob and oven, a lighting circuit feeding six fire-rated LED downlights, and a heat detector circuit to enhance fire safety within the space.

All cabling was neatly chased into the walls using professional dust-extraction equipment, keeping disruption and mess to a minimum – an important part of maintaining a clean working environment during renovation projects.

The project was well-coordinated with the building team, who had removed the ceilings during the refurbishment, allowing for efficient first fixing. The initial strip-out and first fix were completed in under two days.

Once the kitchen installation was complete, a return visit was carried out for second fixing, appliance connections, and final commissioning. The consumer unit upgrade and all new circuits were fully tested, with certification issued under the NICEIC scheme, along with Building Control notification for full compliance.

This was a well-planned kitchen refurbishment where the electrical installation was upgraded to a high standard, ensuring safety, reliability, and long-term performance.
